Kate Winslet's in oscar awards dressing
Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet arrive for the European Film Premiere of 'Revolutionary Road' at the Odeon Leicester Square on January 18, 2009 in London, England.
Fresh of her double wins at this year's Golden Globe Awards, Kate Winslet, 33, is the big favorite in this year's Best Actress category for her performance in The Reader. This makes her sixth Academy Award nomination.
The first came in 1996, for her performance in Sense and Sensibility. She wore a bright pink gown to her first Oscars that suited the then-20-year-old.
In 1998, Winslet was nominated for her role in the epic Titanic, which won Best Picture but didn't bring her home any statuettes. Neither did the green velvet gown she wore.
Kate's had a lot of time since then to work on her red carpet look (all those nominations have given her a lot of practice. In 2002, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Iris. She attended the awards in a breathtaking red Ben de Lisi gown.
In 2005, Winslet (then nominated for her portrayal of Clementine in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) took the red carpet in a soft blue Badgley Mischka gown.

In 2007, Winslet, nominated for Little Children, wore a light green Valentino gown to her fifth Oscars shutout.
This year, Winslet wore black Yves Saint Laurent to the Golden Globes. It was a remarkably elegant gown, but not quite as exciting as it could have been.
Kate Winslet Winslet has generally played it safe since her Titanic disaster days, but I'd like to see her take home an Oscar in a truly daring gown.

JUST KIDDING! As much as I love this Christian Dior gown, I recognize that it is complete insanity and there's no way it will ever see a red carpet in a non-modified version. But really, Winslet owes it to herself to experiment with a new silhouette. This Marchesa gown is gorgeous, and would undoubtedly look beautiful on Kate.
